Beautiful Land Market offers Sunday in Ames handmade vintage items

Beautiful Land Market opens its pop-up season on Sunday with over 50 vendors.

Featuring makers, vintage collectors, artists, artisans, mobile shops, food trucks and live music, the free, family-friendly event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the downtown Fareway store parking lot. city, 619 Burnett Ave.

The May Day baskets will be available from Friendship Ark, whose core members created the holiday items. The organization will be accepting voluntary donations for the baskets to further its mission of providing homes and community services in Ames to adults with developmental disabilities.

Pickle Creek Herbs is one of more than 50 vendors participating in the Beautiful Land Market on Sunday.

The directors of Beautiful Land Market are Jody Bergan Bennett and Andrew Kingsbury. Bergan Bennett is an entrepreneur and founder of Lucky Star Market, and Kingsbury is the owner of Decadence and is a senior graphic designer at Iowa State’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

“The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive and we also want to express our thanks to the community-minded local businesses who have stepped up to sponsor and support our events,” Kingsbury said in the statement.

Bergan Bennett said he had a great response to the Fareway parking lot pop-up markets last summer and fall.

Beautiful Land will have food trucks on site, including Nacho Daddy’z Tacos and Jack’s Beef Delight & BBQ. There will also be Heirloom Bakery, Fritz Toffee Company, Jackson’s Baked Goods and Iowa Eats Well will have food vendor booths.

Ames-based singer-songwriter Fred Love returns as a live music talent.

“We had a lot of requests to bring Fred Love back,” Bergan Bennett said.

Handmade items and art are the focus of Beautiful Land Market.

Free tote bags will be given out to the first 100 shoppers, thanks to sponsorship from Deery of Ames.

Other sponsors include Nook & Nest, Della Viti Wine Bar, Prints Copy Center, Laaser-Webb Team at Re/Max, Dream Massage, Nebullam and Rippke Design. Studio 7 Salon & Spa is the musical sponsor of the event.

“Main Street businesses have really stepped up to sponsor our market,” Bergan Bennett said. “We encourage people to really enjoy our downtown while they’re here. There are so many businesses, restaurants and shops open on Sundays. It’s a good time to make your way there.

Many Beautiful Land vendors dream of becoming storefronts one day, she said. The pop-up market can function as a sort of business incubator for creative entrepreneurs.

“One of our vendors, Life Distilled, now has a storefront on Main Street,” Bergan Bennet said.
