Looking for the Chanel from the 70s? Try the vintage collection of Olsen binoculars

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have an impeccable taste for vintage fashion.

There’s no doubt about it – just take a look at one of their Met Gala red carpet appearances in the past decade, for which they dressed as archival models. from Chanel, Dior, Givenchy and more.

Now, longtime vintage fashion collectors are becoming vintage sellers themselves. Through their luxury fashion brand The Row, the Olsen twins offer rare, hand-selected designer pieces from their own personal collections.

The selected pieces are as impressive as they are expensive: there are Chanel jackets, Yohji Yamamoto culottes, a John Galliano kimono dress and several coats from the 90s by Issey Miyake and Comme des Garçons to browse.

Each piece reflects the twins’ distinctly refined styles, shaped by their appreciation for subtle details, luxurious fabrics and the color black. Like their designs for The Row, which were recently sported by Kendall Jenner, the Olsens’ treasured vintage pieces aren’t eye-catching or heavily branded. They operate more on the basis of “If you know, you know”.

They were even organized that way. The designers had the help of vintage fashion expert Marie Blanchet, who worked at Vestiaire Collective and now runs the William Vintage boutique endorsed by Meghan Markle, as well as her own business, Mon Vintage. Fashion fans who know their history will feast on authenticated pieces such as the Pierre Cardin cape for example, or the 1970 Chanel skirt.

Around thirty vintage fashion pieces are now available The Row website, with prices available on request. Even if you’re not shopping, the collection offers an intimate glimpse into the world of the Olsen twins, who are known to be reclusive. They rarely give interviews, they’re not on social media, and they avoid the paparazzi like the plague. All of this, of course, only fuels the curiosity of their fans.

The collection also shows how far ahead of the curve the twins are. They’ve been collecting vintage pieces for the past two decades, long before the Kardashians hit the headlines wearing vintage Alexander McQueen or Versace.

They bought them in vintage stores and flea markets in New York, Paris, Los Angeles and more. (Pro tip: Many of their aforementioned Met Gala looks were purchased from the Lily & Cie boutique in Beverly Hills.) At The Row, the twins have always shown their love for antique furniture and vintage accessories.

Now that the world has finally caught up with the joys of second-hand shopping, the Olsen twins are finally bringing old clothes to The Row. It’s one of the few luxury brands to have entered the resale market so far: there’s also Gucci, which has partnered with TheRealReal to sell pre-loved pieces; as well as Miu Miu, who launched a collection of recycled vintage dresses. Still, you can bet the list will grow in the months to come.
