Gothic romance is the inspiration for Simone Rocha’s fascinating Fall / Winter 2021 collection. At just 34 years old, Rocha has a pretty impressive CV, with collaborations from H&M to Moncler. For this season, the Dublin-born designer has distinguished between punk and princess with her masterfully balanced looks.

The collection emphasized a threesome of fabrics, dominated by satin, leather and tulle. Structured motorcycle jackets were offset by foamy layers of tulle and seasonal patterned tights. Vintage vibes were a strong theme throughout, with several looks comprised of quilted interior wallpaper prints, intricate embroidery, and porcelain cameos. Chunky boots have kept looks from getting stuck in the past.

Between muted tones of black, white, and dusty pink, an injection of army green matched the contrasting themes – army bent in some looks and garden in others. A standout look evoked Renaissance-era romance with hand-sewn flowers blooming on the sheer rose-shaped fabric.

While makeup was kept minimal, the models’ Victorian hairstyles were particularly noteworthy. Twisted into elaborate shapes but left artfully unfinished, the style added to the extravagant and frenetic energy of the collection. Whimsical with a dark heart, Simone Rocha adds another successful component to her CV.
