And then there was former AVU head coach George Welsh.
“He was the best match preparation coach I have ever played for or worked with,” said Moore. “He was a highly respected Hall of Fame member. I wouldn’t have had the level of success I have had without the mentoring and coaching of Coach Welsh.
Parkhill played for basketball head coach Bill “Hoot” Gibson.
“If he had a style it was ‘Do all you can to try to win the game,'” Parkhill said.
Parkhill said an early season win over Duke University in the 1970-71 season triggered the program’s turnaround.
“More than anything, we’ve proven that we can win in the ACC – and I’ll wear it in my grave,” said Parkhill.
“We had some big wins, some on the road. We just had a really good team. We played really well together and proved that we can win. This, more than anything, means the world to me and to all the guys I’ve played with.
Although the Vintage collection draws its inspiration from the era, the styles are adapted to current fashion and include clothing options for men, women and children ranging from t-shirts and outerwear to hats. The designers of the collection conducted a flurry of research to come up with the initial set of nine classic brands to improve and recreate. The research included photo archives, faded game schedules, library materials, old ticket stubs, model trophies and, of course, those timeless uniforms.
