Zerina Akers curated a vintage collection to thrill

In the height of the Christmas gift season, Thrilling has teamed up with celebrity stylist Zerina Akers to provide a curated vintage collection to help you with your shopping needs. The edit follows Thrilling’s most recent collaboration with Distraught costume designer Mona May, who handpicked 500 second-hand items that channeled her expert ’90s-inspired aesthetic. Akers also looked to the same era for inspiration, but expanded the hip scene -hop and R&B generation, which championed collaboration, celebrated personal style and spotlighted female musical acts including Salt-N-Pepa, TLC, En Vogue, and the Child of Destiny.

“I was initially inspired by empowering women and wanted to find a way to communicate that with the fact that we are two women-owned businesses coming together,” Akers, who is best known for styling Beyoncé and found Everything belongs to blacks, an extensive directory and marketplace of black-owned businesses, NYLON said. “The last time I remember seeing this regularly was in the 90s. I wanted to organize a collection that was trendy right now and feel nostalgic.”

Fascinating owner Shilla Kim-Parker contacted Akers on a whim with the idea of collaborating. “We reached out to Zerina and were blown away not only by her response, but by her generosity of spirit throughout this collaboration,” she said. “Despite the fact that Zerina has worked on a blockbuster scale with successful clients, she has been passionate about raising the voice and profiles of small independent black brands and businesses.”

Thrilling x Black belongs to everything is live and available to buy now on the Thrilling website, featuring pieces from FUBU, Tommy Hilfiger, Jean Paul Gaultier, and more. One of Akers favorite picks is a Patrick Kelly jacket which she says “brings a moment of full loop to the collaboration. He was a pioneer of black designers. Plus, there’s a mix of top and bottom designer items, including Jean Paul Gaultier, FUBU, Tommy Hilfiger, and more. ” There is a Buttoned bodysuit Christian Dior it would look great with a pair of jeans, ”Akers adds. “And the perfect pair of fleece-lined Carhartt jeans that will serve someone perfectly next winter. “
